Working with mould cultures or any humidity-sensitive samples can be… well, kind of annoying if your equipment can’t keep things steady. I’ve used a few incubators before, but the MJL series feels a bit different — in a good way. It’s not flashy or anything, but it sort of does what you need without making a big deal out of it.
The first thing I noticed is the inside. The chamber is stainless steel, but the edges are rounded off so stuff doesn’t get stuck there. Sounds small, but after cleaning it a few times, trust me, you’ll apreciate it. The display on the front shows several things at once, and you don’t have to tap around ten menus just to check the temp.
Temp and humidity control are pretty smooth — it uses some fuzzy PID systm (I don’t remember the exact name, spelled something like that), but basically it stops those weird jumps you sometimes get in cheaper gear. Also, the airflow is adjustable in three speeds, and surprisingly that actually helps when you’re running mixed sampls.
There’s also an UV lamp built in. I don’t use it every day, but it’s nice when you want to give the chamber a quick “clean sweep,” you know? The refrigeration part runs quietly — quiter than I expected — and the dust filter pops out easily for cleaning instead of being hidden behind twelve screws like other brands.
For humidity-heavy work, the ultrasonic humidifer keeps the environment really even. No weird wet corners or dripping. And yeah, the whole thing is fluorine-free too, so more eco-friendly if that matters to you.
The MJL line has a bunch of sizes, like from 80L to 450L, but they all sorta share the same “feel.” If you need more advanced stuff, you can add things like multi-segment programming, remote monitorning, USB data export, or even a tiny printer for logs (yes, like an old-school mini printer).
Overall? I’d say it’s a solid, no-nonsense incubator for mould culture, microbial work, or environmental testing. It doesn’t try to be fancy, it just works… which is kinda all you want sometimes.
